Art Nouveau French sterling silver sugar tongs in the IRIS pattern by Puiforcat. Finely decorated with detailed stylized iris motifs, with the same sinuous iris and tendril motifs repeated on the stunning pierced and engraved handles. Embellished with gilt vermeil finish. No monograms. Hallmarked with the French Minerve 1st standard mark, in use from 1838, which guaranteed the finest quality silver of .950/1000 purity (95% silver and a higher grade than the standard .925 for sterling. The silversmith mark is located on the interior of the sugar tongs and is difficult to see. In overall good antique condition with general wear from use and age. Measures 5 3/8" length. Weighs 55.1 grams.
