This is a commemorative spoon that recognizes a very important historical event in Norway. The spoon is made by Th Marthinsen and is made of 830S silver. The bowl of the spoon has been lightly washed in gold (vermeil). The hallmarks show 830S and the mark for Marthinsen. It is done in the style or form of a berry spoon. It measures 4 3/4 inches in length with a very rounded bowl. The bowl is engraved with "Norge 1945". There is an inscription around the edge of the bowl in Norwegian: "Brutt Blod Lenker Band og Tvang" which translates to Broken Blood Links Bonds and Coercion. The handle of the spoon shows a human figure raising a round emblem with the Norwegian Crown in the center. Early in WW2, the allies withdrew from Norway as they felt they could not defend it and concentrated the Allied forces in other areas. The "broken blood" references this event. However, Norway was liberated by the British on May, 8, 1945. The "links bonds and coercion" is a reference to this event. This is a lovely historical spoon with great meaning in a collection. It is in excellent condition. Ship to US only by USPS. International ship by Ebay Global Shipping.
