Coin Silver serving scoop (3 1/4" long x 2 3/8" wide bowl), circa 1846-1852,
gold vermeil floral engraved bowl, monogram K, weighing 71.4 grams.
Hall Hewson & Brower
mark,
S.D. Brower & Son
retailer mark.
A pre-Civil War partnership of silversmiths Green Hall, John D. Hewson and S. Douglas Brower. Albany, NY 1846-1852.
This serving spoon also bears the
S.D. Brower & Son mark indicating conflicting production dates of 1867-1884 during which the original partner (S. Douglas Brower) teamed with his son Walter S. Brower in both production and retailing flatware.
This beautiful scoop is in very good condition with numerous light use marks overall however there are several deeper scratches on both sides of the H.H.&B. mark (see photo).
Pattern detail is excellent and gold vermeil bowl has moderate wear to the heel. no removals and no damage issues other than the scratches mentioned above.
I have ultrasonic cleaned and lightly hand polished this exceptional server with Goddards silver polishing foam.
Dark areas in photos are reflections.
The final finish is an antique medium luster with pattern patina.
