    Whiting began the lovely sterling "Lily of the Valley" pattern in 1885. It has long been considered one of the finest sterling patterns ever made. This piece is fairly difficult to find - a gumbo spoon. The length is 6.75 inches and the bowl is 1 7/8 inches at the widest point. The bowl is not quite round as it is 2.25 inches the other direction. There is are very tiny nicks on the back edges. On the reverse is the standard Whiting mark, the word, "sterling", and a single letter monogram. With its pieces of shrimp, sausage, chicken, and aromatic broth this spoon is perfect for a Creole gumbo.
